I hardly knew you.
We'd met a few times.
You wanted to talk and I
Was too busy.
I paused a few moments,
Excused and moved on.
I hardly knew you.
You were always so quiet,
But you stopped me to talk.
I was late, in a hurry,
Said sorry, walked on.
I scurried back to my busy life.
You
Walked silently into the lake.
Lay down in the water and died.
I hardly knew you,
And never will now:
Shall never know why
You reached out to me;
Never know What your pain was,
Or if I could help.
Forgive me.
