There is a widely-held view that in Western industrial cultures the
custom of making music together on social occasions has been discarded.
England is a prime example, having apparently lost more of its folk
culture than the rest of Europe. I am researching the current state of
social music-making and attitudes to such music-making in England.
My thesis is on the use of music in social occasions: not, however, the use of recorded music, or any other kind of listening - what interests me is people making music.
In order to collect information about music-making activities, I've set up a wiki and a blog.
